Ashia Mahmoud, a 20 years old, tells stories of the myth of the ‘The Jum Jum’ tribe to her three children by the glow of a Luci lantern. The Oldest, Omar is 7, Aziz is 3 and the baby is 9 month old Karima. The family had to flee their village because of heavy arial bombardment from Russian built Antonov bombers and heavy ground fighting by forces loyal to the regime in North Sudan. They found a bit of peace in the UNHCR camp ‘Doro’ Mabaan in Southern Sudan. Ashia’s life in the camp has been one of great sadness and great joy. One of her children died in the camp just days after her arrival. But little nine month old Karima was born in Camp Doro. Always some light in the midst of the dark..
